MK3 Problems.

So other than the ball joints i have found a few more problems with the supra.

The orange light on the very left keeps flicking on and off, looks like a cage? I think its the old coolant light, but i have plenty of coolant in it. When i hit about 1000 RPM it has a swooshing sound and i was told it could be a air pocket in my coolant lines or something?

Also when i started my car it idle'd at about 750 RPM, then after i drove it it went down to 450-500. Any ideas?

How long do the automatic transmissions normally last on these cars cause i think mine is starting to slip.

The orange light means hte bird has escaped the cage.....yes it is low coolant. When you say there is plenty there, do you mean it is full to the markings, or just you see some sloshing around? Does the level change with engine temperature, and do you find the need to add some from time to time?

Sloshing sounds (we commonly call it the waterfall behind the dash) is the sign of an air pocket, and might be where your coolant light is coming from. Air expands at a different rate from coolant, and it might suck the coolant out to the point there is little enough to keep the light from coming on.

I suggested some things to look at in the other thread for your idle issues.

Slushboxes...around here they last until someone finds an R154 and changes them out . People typically get a long time out of well cared for ones. Hard driven and raced are a different story, but it's more user than trans. They do not have a reputation for failure at stock power levels.

Forget what i said about what posts. I didn't get an owners manual with my car so what type of fluids should i be putting in it. And how do i check my transmission fluid. Car on or off, park or neutral?

when cold, lift the front of the car as high as you can and open the rad cap. Start the car and turn on the heater to max. Squeeze various hoses to try to "burp" the system. Have more coolant available to top it up as needed.

Trans fluid is the same as every other car. Start, warm it up with a drive, in park and running, check the dipstick and add as required. I believe minimum spec is dextron III fluid. BTW, it is also used for your powersteering fluid...do not purchase powersteering fluid for the supra.

FYI: NEVER mix red and green. EVER.

The rule of thumb is: "If it came from Toyota with red, fill it with red. Otherwise, stick to green."

Green is what you want in this case.

I've never confirmed it elsewhere, but in pontiacs it was known to eat away at the hoses from the inside.

Just generally, stick with one or the other.
