89 7mg auto to 2jz turbo manual

First off Id like to say hi new to the forum obviously. I did read the sticky on the swaps very generic info and I did a thread seach on this topic and didnt really find anything. I did however find someone who wanted to do the opposite which was kinda wierd.

As the title obviously says thats what I am wanting to do. My questions are as follows:1)does anyone know anyone who has done such a thing already and point me to that person 2) any difficulties with this swap or is it a straight forward bolt up swap 3) anyone know a place I can buy the stuff for the manual swap(I already have the tranny, clutch kit, flywheel, and shifter assembly I need the rest) 4)and any other info I should be aware of?

what transmission do you have..?

non turbo 5-speed Supras had the w58, and the turbo 5-speeds had the R154...

MKIV Supras/SC300's had the w58 in non-turbo 5-speed form, but the bellhousing is different, and from what I've read, wont fit the MKIII Supra (different shifter locations)...

What you need is an R154 bellhousing off a 1JZ Supra, to bold up an MKIII R154 to the 2JZ.

Hey thanks for the info buddy. I am actually ordering a jdm 2jz turbo engine and 6 sp tranny already bolted up to the engine. All I really need to know is if there is anything I need to do that requires any custom or off the wall stuff to put this puppy in? Like can I use the driveshafts that go with this engine or do I need to get custom ones? Stuff like that. Any help or info is much appreciated. Or just if you know someone that knows about this type of a job is gret too. Thanks again

Yes, yes, and yes. You will need custom motor mounts, custom tranny mounts, custom piping for IC, for PS, custom drive shaft, the diff wont hold the power and neither will the axles, so youll need those from a TT Mk4 which are not easy to come by, and not cheap. The pumpkin and rear axles alone will run you an easy $1200 used. Thats without any custom mountings or hardware. The suspension will need to be modified to account for weight and the increased power. The parts from a nonturbo, which are cheaper, will not hold up consistently with the power of the 2jz, if you plan to mod it at all, which you will. I take it your package deal comes with a JDM wiring harness for the engine and interior as well as the JDM ECU. JDM gauge clusters perhaps? Plus your car still falls under the smog laws (if you are infact in Fairfield CA), and you cannot smog a JDM engine, regardless or not if the egr valves are still intact.

Hope I shed some light.

Hey thanks alot for the info buddy. I found out about the diff and driveshafts all of which is planning on to be modded anyway same with the suspension I was planning on going with fully adjustable coil overs. I didnt know about the mounts,ic piping, and sorry for the newb question but whats a pumpkin?

And yes im in fairfield ca however, I do know that if you put a newer engine in a older car and if its jdm all you have to do is get the car to a ref shop first then get it smog checked then it will pass as long as the engine runs good on the smog equipment of course. I did this with my datsun 210 I put a jdm sr20det in and it passed no problem. And of course I do know about the wire harnesses being different so that needs to be modified somehow.

Pumpkin is just slang for a rear differential. The only thing with your Datsun was that it was already smog exempt, this car is not. I DO know that a JDM 2jz into a US Mk4 supra is illegal. Brakes will also have to be switched, to handle the new speeds.

it depends on whether your car is an early model 89, or a later model 89...

The 2jz will bolt up if your car is a later 89, otherwise you'll need a late model 89+ crossmember and mounts...

Tranny is definitely a custom job, but the gear ratios combined with any MKiii differential (especially your 4.3) will be off...

Best would be to sell your 6 speed to an mkiv onwer that wants to swap, and recoup some of the money spent...

The R154 is MUUUCH easier, and it is more than adequate, very tough tranny....
