My first gear is starting to slip when it wants to shift to second. Its the stock auto tranny. Is it about to go? If so does anyone have a standard w/ a blown engine i can buy off of them? Gen 3 that is.
Sorry no spare tranny here. From what i've seen it could be slipping because it's about to go or the fluid may be low. Have you checked the trans-fluid? I believe the dipstick should be on the driver's side. Just leave the engine running.
Ill double check my fluid but i already checked that. And i dont want another automatic ill let my baby sit in the garage before i put another automatic in it. I heard the W58 Transmission is good up to about 400hp, and the skys the limit with the R154.

Now my knowledge is pretty heresay on the W58, but they've used it in a slew of vehicles. Making a handful of different power numbers. AFAIK, on the Mk3's the W58 isn't -solid- above ~350hp.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
Dude if i broke 350HP On my car i would be so happy. Im 17 and this is my first car, but im a hell of a gear head. My tranny fluid seemed to be a little high when i checked it, do i check it in park or drive?
And jeeves, whenever i have a problem i just think, Im gonna go ask jeeves. You and bgreiger seem to be the know it all guys around here.
you check it in park. NOT drive. That'd be bad. You'd get run over, Supra would drive into something, etc. Occasionally cars will need it checked in neutral but it'll say it on the dipstick. Just fire it up, prop up the hood, pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, re-dip, and check it.
Iuno my friend tried to tell me to drive it in drive and i was like whatever ill sit in the car and u can try n check it if its about tor un u over ill hit the brake but i checked it in park and it was slightly high. Any ideas?
Not a clue on the matience history but i bought it from a gearhead who had it since 70k so i figured it would be good. he had a VW Rabbit setup for Pro Class SCCA and a Turbo Miata as his daily driver. Someone owed him money so they gave him the car instead. Im not really sure what the fluid looked like, it was pretty dark. The car has 153k miles on it and its a auto. Its running slightly under 8 lbs of boost w/ a cheap aftermarket exhaust and stock everything else.
hmmm... the fluid should look redish/pinkish. Sounds like its time for a transmission flush. The cost ranges from place to place. I've seen cars that had slipping problems too and after that it was fine. Stupid automatics transmissions lol
Sounds like a good place to start. Tranny flush. My friend works in a shop and if i bought the fluid he would do it for me for like 10 bucks probably. Well ill start there and see what happens afterwords. It says dextron 2 but is dextron 3 ok? I cant find any dextron 2. I put dextron 3 in my powersteering and its workin fine.

I'll find out tomorrow morning first thing which ATF Toyota calls for. I personally dont know off the top of my head. Most places have a power flush machine that hooks up to the tranny lines and they run the engine, using the tranny to flush the old stuff into the machine while filling it with the new ATF silmultaneously. I've done many of these. They're cake to do.
I'll find out in the morning and post it on here asap
