Ok, this may seem stupid to some of you, but I'm having a hell of a time replacing my fuel filter on my 89 supra 5 speed. it sits on top of the differential and I can't figure out how they expect you to get to the damn thing! please help

They didn't. There is no service interval. I don't believe a filter is "lifetime", but they do. You can continue to fight it blind, or remove the diff. I'm to a point I've taken the diff out so many times I would just drop it instead.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do it, but I think thats my only option. is there anything I need to know about removing it? can I drop it with the half shafts still attached?

unbolt the axles, the drive shaft and drop away. Shafts must all be removed.

well idk about you but i would rather drop my tank than drop the diff. when i replaced mine i did a pump and filter. droppin the tank is only maybe 4-6 bolts. With the tank dropped its the easiest filter ever....granted once the tank is off.

I did it with it all on the vehicle. It sucked but my tank was far harder to pull.

So, moral of the story? YMMV.

Get in good with people at an oil change place and use their pit. When my friend needed to replace a front axle, we used our work for it. When my general manager needed to replace an oil pan gasket on his 240sx, we used the pit, when I go to hang the HKS exhaust I want for my Supra, i'm gonna use Jiffy Lube's pit haha.

I dropped my tank, alone, with about 5-7 gallons of fuel left in it. Fun? No. Easier than reaching all over the place, YOU BET!

Spray all the fittings down with PB blast for a few days, and make sure to use FLARE wrenches! It will make the job MUCH easier!

Is it this hard to replace the fuel filter on a non turbo, or is yours a non turbo also?

Definitely the same for both. There are very few differences between Turbo and N/A Supras. The chassis are the same.
