87 Turbo - Replaced power steering pump - noisy on startup!

I went ahead and replaced the PS pump, pressure line, and all return lines because of a leak on my 87 Turbo (and the fact that everything was 21 years old). Now the pump is noisy (like a low fluid groaning sound) upon startup. It lasts for a few minutes, and then goes away.

Is there a filter in the PS reservoir? I DID NOT flush the system, nor did I really clean out the reservoir (dumb). It seems that the fluid is restricted on it's way to the pump until it heats up a bit. There has to be some sort of screen/filter built in to the reservoir, right? Suggestions?

Yes, it's a non-removable wire screen. Many see gains if you can get it out and clean it. Others will find nothing in the screen.

I have a PS question. I posted this the other day and got no reponse. My son added normal power steering fluid to my Supra until the whole system is filled with this. It makes noise on start up, sometimes sticks a little bit and is leaking out everywhere. I plan on draining it all out and replacing it with Dextron III. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions regarding this? Why is it leaking everywhere? Will my proposed procedure help anything? Why could my son not read the clearly marked resevior calling for Dextron or Dextron II?

The PS system is notoriously leaky. Hell. I can fix a HG and my PS stuff STILL leaks.

Draining/flushing can greatly help, make sure you check that screen in the PS reservoir too. Your son's reading abilities, sadly, are anyone's guess.

Our inspection NAZI's will not pass the car if the system leaks at all. I have been successful cleaning up a system with brake parts cleaner jsut before taking the car in (I always go in early on a Saturday so I can watch them and drive away with my car before 9:00 AM).

I've been chasing a leak for years. Hoping that when I put it back together with the last possible line and connection replaced it will finally stop...not holding my breath though...

Oddly enough, right now the biggest leak I've got... Is from my damn -10AN line going to oil pan from the turbo. It's also the hardest line to get at in the whole damn car. Go figure.
