Hey everyone.. I'm still deciding on whether or not to purchase this BEAUTIFUL 1997 Supra NA thats got approx. 63k miles on it.
The Supra has been my fav. car since I could remember. But I want to know, is it a high maintenance car? I'm already a fan of Toyota's as I have been driving Camry's (hand-me-downs) for like 8 years. I just want to know if the 2jzge is just as reliable and dependable without having to 'keep up with it' as much.
I just want to know everything and anything about owning a Supra. Besides the engine, is there anything else that can have any mishaps or something that often needs careful attention?
I want to have as much facts as possible before purchasing such an AWESOME piece of machinery.
My understanding is the non-turbo cars are quite reliable. That said, it is 10 years old now, so expect more maintainence than a 5 year old, but so long as you dont drive it like you stole it, you should get a nice long life from it.
^^^true. I worked on a Lexus SC300 at my work with the 2jz-ge in it. Pushing 280k MILES and the engine still seemed to run fine. No leaks, engine didnt even look like it had that many miles. I just wonder why the ABS, Airbag, and check engine lights were on. Hmmm...
thanks for the info guys. the car is going for just under $20k.
i will see now if banks will give me some money for it
That seems pretty high for an NA, although 63k is pretty low mileage and it is a 97. If you shop around patiently, you can find a TT for $20k with around 80k miles. Anways, good luck, banks seem to have trouble financing for
"old Toyotas" nowadays. Let us know when you pick one up.

hmm.. how about 16500 for it? we still negotiating. and that's about kelly blue book. what you guys think about that? and freggin banks suck. i'm 23 and the lower interest rate ones aren't giving me the loan b/c i don't have enough credit history.
it's my parents' fault for not getting it on sooner...
so i'm getting ready to buy this thing. but i'm going to bring the car to a mechanic first and let them see if everything is working the way it should. i was thinking about bringing it to a toyota dealership's service dept. and have them look at it.
but do i ask them for anything in particular? like just 'look'? or have them run diagnostics? compression ratios?
