first question. how much you wanting to spend? 1jz swaps arent as easy as it would seem. Motor mounts, wiring, exhaust, intake, intercooler, etc. Gets costly...
someone else recently asked about this. here's the link to the thread...
how much do you want to spend, and what do you want to get out of it at the end of your build? To get you started, the 1j is more pricey as you need the engine, then to rebuild it. The 7m needs a little more money in the rebuild to get it as bulletproof, but you already own the engine, and don't need to monkey with anything to get started...
luckily Washington doesnt have smog laws (unless my friend paid someone to pass his RB20det engine into his 240sx...) so I think a 1jz would pass up there.
Buuuuut... like bgrieger said, the 7m is a good engine once you rebuild it. That's the path i'd take because you know it'll go right in because its what came out. Different story with the 1jz...
yeah i actually thought of just stickin with the 7m-gte my friend had a 87 supra with 1jz turbo intercooler blowoff valve and it was tight but he had to redo all the mounts and crap i got the money and the tools im most likley gunna stick with the 7m turbod
yup just rebuild the 7m. much easier. Definately make the sure the head isnt warped, ARP studs, good head gasket and the right torque spec. You'll be good to go
