ok i have bought a 91 supra with no engin o tranny for 400 bux and i just recently found a passion for supras so i dont know much about them yet but i was wondering what the twin turbo j spec engine for a 91 would be called all i know is that the 93-98 twin turbo engine is a 2jz-gte so if some one could tell me if the 2jz-gte would work in a 91 supra or what twin tubo engine would work in it i would very much appreciate it by the way i noticed on ebay and other websites you can easily get the 2jz-gte strait from japan but i heard most of these engines were used for racing and are probably thrashed if anyone has ordered any supra engines online that garuntee low milage and what not please reply and let me know how that went.

There is also of course the 1G-GTE, a TT 2.0 inline six that was also available on the MK III in Japan, but they are ultra rare over here compared to the 1j...They look like a mini 7m in the engine bay. IIRC, they are still used in NA trim to this day in various lexus'.
Clip is the only sane way to do it. The swap is a bear if you have all the parts, and a disaster if you just have the motor. 7M ECU will not in any way work with the smaller TT's.
so what do you mean by "clip is the only sane way to go" i have no idea what clip means but thanks for all the info. i really want to know what it would take to get the 2jz in this supra i guess i should just by the 2jz and make it work no matter what and figure it out myself, i cant really figure it out any other way because i live in a small town in which i doubt anyone within 50 miles has a 2jz that i could look at so if anyone knows what its gonna take as far as engine mounts, the size of the engine compared to the size of the engine compartment, ecu's,and so on i would appreciate it and i also hear there is a 6 speed tranny that links to the 2jz from the newer models is this true?
My question is why you want to embark on such a big and difficult project when you seem to know absolutely nothing about supras. this is a major job for people who know supras inside and out.
unless you have butt loads of cash to pay mechanics, or want this taking a few years, you'd be better off finding a 7m replacement engine, and then modifying it.

well i may not know much about supras but i know enuf to get started and theres only one way to learn right,i just dont know where to look on the net for the info i need but what i do know is that i like supras and i like em fast oh yeah and turboed i dont know anyone who doesnt cream from the sound of a turbo spooling up,by the way thanks for letting me know about the 1jz-gte thats what i have decided on now i just have to find one with a 5 speed,if anyone knows where i could get the engine or 5 spd tranny besides ebay lemme know please!
Clip = half cut car. Purchase a half cut car, and you get the engine, tranny, subframe, mounts, computer and wiring harness...everything from the steering wheel forward, including the frame, dash and rad (it is different from ours...), that you really do need.
We're just saying slow down as there are many guys with years of experience modifying and building many of these particular cars that are pulling their hair out trying to make this new project work! I'd hate to see you a month and 5k in to the project, and nowhere near finished.
If you want more information, there are a few sites to check for possible assistance...supraforums.com has a bunch of 1j owners that have succeeded, as does supramania.com.
Bank $6-7k CDN to pull it off on the cheap, and know that some repair and maintenance parts are not available from your Toyota dealer...you need to contact Japan, or other 1j owners to see what's available.
Most parts from the 1JZ are shared with the 2JZ aren't they? I don't mean to mislead, just asking. And if you find a good dealer with a good parts guy, he can get JDM parts shipped over. But a hookup is definately better.
thanks for the info on the clip i think its just gonna be a b*tch to find one by the way this project isnt somthing im trying to get done asap its just a fun project for me it will be done when it gets done no rush lol just like my skyline gt-r34
thank you so much for the jarco info they have everything i need and at a very good price too, that was definetly the info i was looking for. thanks again
a guy in our local toronto club is in the middle of his swap. he had to get his clip from georgia i believe. that tells you how rare they are. there is a 1jz-gte converted supra for sale in the toronto canada area right now, and he is asking 1500 cdn dollars i believe. i saw the car running, so he must have all the parts needed. you could pull it out of that car and build it up, then plunk it in yours.
the guy in our club who is doing to swap is Steve. he has a running website with all his trials and problems. that site will probably help you quite a bit. i'll have to dig up that website from old emails from him later this weekend.
