As far as I recall, no automatic should be run without a cooler. My CAMRY has a tranny cooler. For the longevity of the tranny, I wouldn't ever run one without a cooler.
A stall converter is used to rev up the tranny before a launch. It will make starting up again from stop lights a trickier experience. Other than that, you'll see no difference.
