3rd Generation Weird intercooler piping

is it me or is this just a weird way to intercooler piping?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-92...spagenameZWDVW

I was browsing the pics and then said WTH to it going up to the firewall and then over to the intake. Maybe its just me.

Either way... i'm not gonna buy it.

So... happy bidding! LOL

I actually like how that intercooler piping is routed, i would rather have mine down along the side and crossed over, i thought about making a custom pipe for that myself. I actually like this more because its down the side, its out of the way, and eaiser access to a turbo compared to removing the stock intercooler piping.

EDIT: It doesnt run up to the firewall, it runs parallel to the 3000 pipe then cuts over, just running up the side of the car then crossing over instead of in the way of everything.

...it hangs lower than the hold downs and engine cross member, so if you use an engine undercover, you have to dump it from the looks of it. The pipe is also the lowest point...hope the car isn't lowered or there are no speed bumps around.

Now as to the engine bay, it's a little longer route than stock, but definately a personal preference. I'm not big on the look, but I know many who do like that route as well, and have made it look good.

Whoever made this is a retard because the piping is horrible yes, but i just like the general style / layout of the piping in the engine bay.

They may have made it clean, but they also added like 12" of overall length.

what if you just eliminate the cross over pipe altogether with an intake manifold like this?

A front face manifold. They do shorten the path, but add a series of other concerns. Alternators usually need to be dropped down, or the AC has to come out to put the alternator there. Then there is the throttle cable and throttle body...none of it's rocket science, but it does add complexity and custom to the mix.

I full well plan on going FFIM. The over the engine crap is ridiculous. Stopped with manifold temps at 75ºF, started back up ten minutes later, manifold temps were 130ºF.

Ugh.

I'd like to eventually do it too, but that temp should drop quickly enough once you're under way again after a restart. Besides, while the hot side is a little warmer after stopping, the whole engine bay gets near that hot once the air flow stops, so you might only get it down to 115-120 instead of 130.

It does, a mile down the road I'm back to 80degF, just sucks something vicious.

I realize the whole bay will warm up, but I find it hard to believe that if I've got 12" of piping between my IC and my manifold that it'll heat up to too ungodly temps. I just find that any piping that goes over the engine will deal with temps that otherwise would be unnecessary.
