Wheel question

Yeah it is a stupid question about wheels. Would 15 inch wheels fit on a supra. I know why, I have 16,s stock but about any 15 inch wheel made is lighter than a 16 inch right? So I was going to try and lose some unsprung weight. I just wanted to know if this is right? It is unsprung right because sprung wight would be any part the springs hold like the engine weight, and all the other weight other than wheels, brakes components? If I am correct with losing unsprung weight with smaller wheels what should I look for, what size, diameter, and negative off set number?

Not many 15inch wheels will clear the front brakes. That said, you are sort of on the right track. 50% of the spring/damper, the contol arms, the brakes and hubs, 1/2 the driveshafts, the wheels and tires are unsprung. An old racers rule of thumb was something like saving 1 lb here translated into 2 lbs or more of sprung weight.

With wheels, there is on other thing to add to the equasion: The closer to the hub the tire and rim is, the less torque required to spin them, and less clamping force to lock them up. The further away, the more you need of both. You change the leverage of the car on the road. For a street car, I'd get what you like. When we start to make power, width is the greatest limitation anyhow as you really need more rubber fast, which goes against the weight thing. I personally can't see the point of purchasing based exclusively on weight, but whatever floats your boat.

Okay Thanks. I guess I will start looking for some 16 inch wheels so I don't mess up anything. My stock wheels are scared up and hard to balance because the rim is slightly damaged. It was like this when I bought the car. So I wanted to find something not too expensive, Do you know any places with good prices?

Prices are so variable (especially for high demand, light wheels) that any one place that sells 'cheap' doesn't often do so for long.
