1980 Supra Engine Swap

Hello all. I have a 1980 Celica Supra with a 4M-E engine in it that is toast. I want to put a new (used low mileage or remanufactured) engine in it, but the 4M-E is a little hard to come by, and I also want the little extra HP that the 5M-E offers. I don't know about compatibility though. What would I have to change/adapt for the 5M-E, if anything? To complicate things more there is a 5M-GE that I am wondering about compatibility with too. I'm pretty good with a wrench, but don't want to get into welding on new motor mounts or cutting much of anything to make whatever fit. Ideally, I'd like to pull the old one and just plug in the new. The body and interior of this thing are well worth the effort here so anything any of you can do to help me here will be greatly appreciated. Finally, if you happen to have one of these engines sitting around let me know, I have cash on hand. Thanks in advance--
Andrew

A 7m turbo has been put in them before, but I've never seen anyone drop in a 5m (though if the 7m fits, the 5m will too). Know that you are looking to replace pretty much EVERYTHING under the hood (not that the MKI had a lot of extra stuff there anyhow). The best place to ask this question, given we have no MKI owners here, is on celicasupra.com. I recommend searching there before simply asking as they have likely been over this many times (or many more than us). There are a couple of owners I can think of personally that should know what you need practically part number by part number.

Good luck and keep us posted!
