knocking sound?

I got a knocking sound in my engine and I dont know where is it coming from? I dont remember or for some reason how it started but its getting annoying...Sometimes I hear it most when I reach 3,000 RPM but usually I can even hear even though when I just seating there and warming the car. Its getting annoying now and I wonder if anyone of you can figure it out?

THanks,
KRis

I am just buying a supra with the same sound I think. It is coming from the piston and its most likely that the bearings are gone that connect the piston to the crankshaft. it also could be that the timing is off.

first thing to do is check the oil level.
some people can hear the injectors and think they make a lot of noise.
the lifters could be getting older and noisier.
pictons, rings, bearings all can make bad noises.
loose crankshaft pulley can make a banging noise.
also a loose timing belt tensioner.

try using a piece of hose stuck your ear while moving around the engine bay to locate the noise. you'll be amazed at how well it works.

if your engine sounds like a blue man group concert, then im afriad it may already be too late.

Your rite Ben I was amazed how well it works. I put the hose rite on my oil pan and there it is. The most annoying sound I've ever heard.

Whoa buddy, knocking, as stated before is a wide band of things and can be a wide band of problems, whoever said that about the bearings on the rods and main caps, back up, if you spin a bearing, the rod will break and will come through the side of the block end of story. but you'de have to have the engine actualy looked at to find the source of the problem and to see how severe it is. we have machines that I could sit there and find the problem like that with, and just to clarify it may be just a monkey using a machine but keep in mind the monkey has to have a collage degree for using that and other machines like it. so its best to take it somewhere where there is a good drivability specialist.
