What size socket is the right size for a transmission drain plug, and the differential drain plug? And are the filler plugs the same size? I have to head up to autozone or NAPA for some bigger sockets I want to make sure I get the right sizes for both.
Okay thats cool, so do you have to pull the shifter out with the boot and part console? Also if you do get the plug size is it the same as the differential drain and fill plug?
Your transmission drain plug is a 17-18 mm if I remember right. While your at the auto store, buy your tranny fluid in a 1 gallon jug.... its the perfect amount to fill your tranny. You can also buy a small universal jug pump for about 4.00 that will allow you to screw it onto the jug and pump it into the tranny from below. Good for rearends as well.
Well they got the tranny covered, as far as the rear end goes i've seen that almost all Toyotas have the same size rear diff check plug socket. I cant recall what size though. I think 26mm...? I can find out in the morning.
If you're gonna re-fill the rear diff, and its LSD, make sure to add the LSD additive
I just changed the differential today, it makes so much of a difference the oil was black, it was really nasty. I think I over filled it a little is this okay? It was on a slight hill though so I put some in until it ran out and stopped that about right isn't it? at the very top of the fill plug or does your finger have to get in there with a little space? Well I am going to do the transmission hopefully in 3 days it started raining on me. But thanks everyone for the information!
