1.3 bar radiator cap

Hey guys,

I was looking into a GReddy 1.3 bar radiator cap on a MKIV. Does anyone know what it does to the internals? Is it "safe" just to replace the standard pressure one to this higher pressure one on a COMPLETELY STOCK engine and STOCK radiator? Or do people usually change out their hoses and water pumps, etc. AND THEN do the high pressure rad. cap? Also, is it good for just street use or is it for the track more?

Thanks for any info!

It will increase the boiling point of the coolant. Nothing more. Typically they get used in racing applications where they need the extra thermal load the water will be able to take using one. That said, if you have even the slightest weak spot (bad clamp, weak hose etc) this will likely have you pissing coolant from everywhere. It will also make removal more dangerous while the coolant is warm.

The systems were designed for 14psi facotry (1bar). New parts could likely have no problems with 30% more pressure. old parts...maybe...maybe not...
