Check engine light

I think it is do to the speed cable but want to get some answers. The check engine light only comes on when the car starts to move, and will stay on till it is cut off. Once started again it will be off, but when it starts to move it will cut back on. I think it is to do with the speed cable, but Would it set a light. The only part I see that might would be it interfering with the speed sensors for the ABS. I am going to checks codes but I have to drive it first and not cut it off, can you check codes with the engine running?

No, you need to check the codes with the key in the ON position, and E1 and TE1 jumpered together at the diag box in the engine bay.

I don't believe a broken speedo cable will throw the check engine light. The best bet is to read you codes, and see what they say.

I got the codes it is vehicle speed sensor, and knock sensor. Now my question is with the knock sensor the connector is broke what can I do. I don't think they sell the connectors or do they? With the speed sensor is there a way to pull a fuse like abs and it will shut down the speed sensors just in time to get the car inspected? I am going to look in a couple days at the wheels sensors it is going to rain a lot for the next 4 days, and I don't have a garage but I am going to get on it.

Knock sensor can be a serious issue, it will cause VERY pathetic performance. I don't know if you can just replace those clips, but toyota doesn't sell them on their own either. I know driftmotion makes a repair kit.

The speed sensor isn't a limiter. It's an actual malfunction.

Diagnosis : No "SPD" signal to ECU for 8 seconds when engine speed is between 2,500RPM and 4,500RPM (7M-GE) or 4,000RPM (7M-GTE) and coolant temp is below 80°C(176°F) and neutral start switch is off.
This is not the ABS Wheel speed sensor.

Thanks Jeeves! How can I fix the speed sensor? I might have another connector from the cut wiring harness for the knock sensor, but I am going to check out driftmotion too. Mostly worried about where the speed sensor is. I thought they were the wheel speed sensors, so I don't even know where they are now.

I don't honestly know what throws the speed sensor code. Might wanna search over at supramania on that one.
