GT car vs sports car...each had their purpose, but it makes the comparison more difficult as the supra had more compromises built in for 4 seats and comfort. If Toyota had stuck around in the dead sports car market of the late 90's / early 00's, perhaps we would have seen quite the little battle, but everyone wanted fatass wagons by that point and so we'll never know. They really hadn't found their groove developing sport/GT cars until the 4th gen supra, and by then the market collapsed. GM would come into their own at the end of this with the C5, but by the time they developed a true supercar class vette, the others weren't selling enough to bother going for a new round.
During their time, they were both a little too fat, a little off on the handling, a little underpowered. The tuner scene helped both.
that's funny i was watching speed channel (PINKS)
guess what...motor to motor couldn't handle it...the chevelle had to use a Nitrous to even come close to the Supra...but at the end as usual Toyota prevailed......

When it comes down to it, you can't beat displacement. You can use forced induction and nitrous to level the playing field, but tit for tat, the corvette will win. Also take into consideration that both C5 and C6 corvettes were lighter than the Mk3 bone stock then there is also far newer engine management and general technology in the Corvettes. Then you're comparing the LS# engine line to the 7M? It's no contest.
For example:
Quote:
Bone stock 6-Speed LS3 in a 2008 C6 laid down 387rwhp and 377rwtq
6.2L -vs- 3.0L, I'm not shocked in the least. Can you make either fast? Yes. Arguably the platform with the highest starting point is going to have the advantage. Even in the daily driver challenge the Corvette wins. Newer interior, newer materials, and with the gearing as it is in those cars, they can make a freeway trip at 85mph turning like 1800rpm. Around town they list at nearly identical fuel usage to a Turbo mk3. So, where are the two even in competition range? I don't see it.
I love my Mk3 and the 7M but I'm also smart enough to know that it's dated technology. Of course you can make any car faster than any other car, he who has the most money wins, it's a fact of life. I own the car because I like it, not because it's the best/fastest/best looking car on the road.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
Well hold on there a minute. I dont know how this happens but this is what it is.
My supra all stock except muffler and running 7lbs. [Automatic]
Friends 94 camaro w/ injectors intake and straight pipes. [Automatic]
Guess who wins? Go toyota.
He has a LT1. 270crank hp stock to my 210 or something. The manuals had 232 due to the 7lbs of boost stock right, but the automatics probably had a little less cause they run 4.5-5lbs stock. Im probably running 230 or so at the crank now, and hes well over 300 with his K&N FIPK injectors and K&N Intake, plus the straight pipes. His car wins off the line but mine pulls after were about 40-60. Its really no challenge.
Granted you are talking about a new 2008 corvette and fuel economy and such. My supra beats my friends camaro in races, gas milage, and overall looks i think. His car looks like a spaceship cause the dude that owned it before him put a big ol wing on the back. Ill get you guys a pic so you can
Does anyone else think that if toyota brought back the 4th gen supras how they were, same body, engine, everything, they would be a bigger hit now?
They would not as everyone and their brother makes that power with less or equal weight these days, and have great handling. The MKIV is a midfielder when put side by side with some sedans today.
BTW...if you're winning against that camero, it's because your friend can't drive, the car needs work, or he feels bad for you.
Lol. Its a automatic. Straight line. Foot to the floor running it through the gears yourself. Thats what he does. Thats what all us automatic guys do. It just happens lol.
Well i guess everyone makes that power now, but its about the car. The supra body is sexy as hell, and the 2jz is one hell of a engine. They could beef it up a little maybe or somethin but 2jz's are great engines from everything ive seen.

Buyers won't see it that way. They'll see a $30,000 price tage, mediocre performance compared to Corvettes and the like, small carrying capacity, high gas prices and so on and so forth.
As for the cars, stock -vs- stock, you shouldn't win to an LT1.

No shit. I know i shouldn't win. And i would like to know how i beat him when he has straight pipes, intake, injectors, it kinda boggles me. I beat mustang gt's too. Mustang GT's, Maro z28's and ss's, and so on. All my cars got is a shimmed wastegate and a muffler lol. Ill get a video of me racing him, but its going to be a while. Car goes into the shop tuesday for headgasket and other things, having them rip it completely apart and check almost everything. After i get it back thats a month of just cruisin for my headgasket to sit properly.
If they brought back the GEN4 supras i guess only people who love them would go after them. I would rather have a gen4 supra over a LOTTTTTTT of cars. Theres a very few select cars i would rather have than a MK4.
Wow that chart is sweet, the supra beats the ZR-1 in 0-60 is amazing. Also having the best slalom speed is great. The supra was built to handle mountains in japan.

That's still a problem. Hypothetically, Do you have $30k do buy a mk4? Because most people that love them, don't.
Lots of people liked them, very few people bought them:
