Hey guys, i'm usually on the camry forums. Yes. Camry. ok now that we got all the laughs out, i've become bored with it so i'm making it a sleeper. Some of you could prolly guess why i decided to post here. Gonna drop a 2JZ-GTE in it hopefully by november. But heres the problem, i need a reliable place to get one and searching the forum didnt seem to get me anywhere. I've seen a lot of JDM ones but i'd prefer USDM if at all possible. think you guys can help me out? You all have reallly really sexy cars, help a little guy out =D
I know it is going to take some fabricating, but that sounds so sweat a big engine in a Camry, it is going to be the perfect sleeper! I got my 7mge from Tiger Japanese-- www.jdmtigerjapanese.com they are really quick with delivery's and it looked really nice. The only problem is they cut the wiring harnesses, but if you get the whole package with the computer I am sure it will come with the harness uncut. They have really good prices for USDM try www.asapmotors.com-- I had a friend get one from there and it was a good motor it was for a Honda though. I hope this helps. I am sure other will answer this question also.
well far as an engine itself being RWD, i dont think it matters. the MR2 uses the 5SFE (which is shared with the camry and the celica) and i've seen that RWD while my car is FWD. and my engine bay is HUGE, i have atleast 6 inches if not more on both sides of the engine, plus a ton more room front and back. but i appreciate the concern.
ah and suprabran, thanks for the sites i'll def look into them. i just wanna make sure i dont buy off some shady place and get ripped off.

It does matter, the 5SFE is a transverse transaxle setup, so the implementation in a Camry and an MR2 is essentially the same since the MR2 is mid-engine. Since the Supra is front engine RWD, the 2JZ is longitudinal, and requires a transmission tunnel. You gonna tunnel out your Camry?
It's not concern...I was hoping you might think about the measurements involved (the engine is upward of 40% longer than a camry V6, and no transaxle transmission is made that fits it) and realize there is no way this in any way shape or form will fit unless you plan to RWD the camry...and I can't see how that would be worth it to anyone...
you're talking about swapping in a... 2jz-gte? Into a Camry....?
LOTS of work. So much that its not worth it. Might as well swap in a 4a-ge 20v into a Tercel. I've seen one (and know the owner) that broke 400whp in a 4-door Tercel. He didnt have to tunnel out the car. Tunnelling is an insane amount of work...
Heh 2jz'd Camry. I thought I had off-the-wall ideas.
Nobody said it can't be done if one is willing to change from FWD to RWD, but that is a 4 link arrangement and going to be a tubbed rear end and a ford 9 inch solid axle as best I can tell in the picture, making it as near as can be a drag only vehicle. If that is the intended purpose, or it is for a show only car so a shop can say "see what we can do", I say sure, rock on. You know what you want and designed for it. However, for anyone thinking for a second that this is a good idea for a road going car, it is both far too expensive to be worth it and for going around a corner you would have been faster with the original arrangements so there is really no point. For a road going car, just buy the supra if the 2j turns your crank that hard.
I suppose if you want to build a 2JZ powered Mazda looking door slammer then that is the way to do it. I am kind of curious as to how well that 4 link is going to fit in the car, what it will do to the wheel base, and how well the geometry is going to work out. They are typicaly made to fit F/Fox bodies.
