Red face Main bearings

Well, I only have 40,000 miles or so on my engine, but I was thinking about replacing the main and rod bearings with clevite bearings. I'm not really sure if there is anything special I need to do to the crankshaft or anything . I 'm also thinking of replacing the piston rings since they are only 60 bucks. Not sure though.

If you have it apart to rebuild it anyhow, sure, go with whatever you like. If the engine is intact, has no problems and you just want to pull it to swap bearings, I would ask...why bother. Wait until you want to push serious boost, then build the engine completely and only once. Then again, it's your money...

Oh no, its not that, I had to take it apart to have the block resurfaced. So I figured while I'm at it, why not do some of the internals? I just dont know if I will need to have the crank ground or not with only 40,000 on it

I would have the works done now then and forget having to do it again. Forged pistons, shot pein the rods, new bearings and rings, oil pump, crank scraper and it will be a little cheaper as it likely only needs a hone and not a full bore job with that few miles. Where you want to build the car in the future will tell you that too. Stock car or stock turbo car, I would rebuild to factory specs with a metal gasket and it'll do you fine. Anything beyond that in your future, and you may as well spend once, not twice!

Yeah, your right. I am in no hurry to get the car back together, so I will probably go that route. I really don't think I will have any reason to go over 350 horseys though, I don't need any more than that.
