CT26 Upgrade

I know I have been posting lots of threads latly, but I am asking questions for two right now! Hey, I myself really don't want to go above 350 horse, and I have been looking at upgrades to the CT26 by various custom turbo shops. I see that the most common are having it set with ball bearings and 2nd being to have the turbine housing milled out a touch and having the compressor pulled out and exchanged for a t04 B wheel put in place. Apparently its a nice way to significantly reduce turbo lag and heating issues, all for about $450.00.
Any opinions?

I've not seen anyone outside of horsepowerfreaks, com that did ball bearing chra replacement. That said, for 350 every day, you would be looking at one of the various 57-60 trim upgrades.

The larger wheels are slower to spool actually, even the ball bearing ones. It is the trade off for having the ability to flow that much more air...the wheels are larger and take longer to get moving. In the CT frame though, none are all that bad, unless they clip the exhaust wheel. Again, a flow versus spool tradeoff. More exhaust flow, slower spool again.

If you're looking for 350 horses a 57 trim CT26 would be my suggestion, assuming we're talking the 7M here. They're more reliable than the 60 trim and since you're only looking for about mid 300's as far as horsepower that'll do it.

Just make sure you upgrade the fuel system to match the new turbo and you should be set.

Yeah, that sounds perfect. I don't need much more ponies than that. Where can I get a hold of a 57 trim?

Aaron over at Driftmotion.com is where I'd go off the top of my head. He has full 57 trim units for sale as well as the option for you to send in your turbo to be upgraded to a 57 trim which is slightly cheaper. Once I finally get the cash and the will to dive in together that's where I'm getting most of my parts.

I'd just use Toyota. Same for bearings and other wear parts inside the engine. Nobody has made anything demonstrated to be any better in this application IMO. That said, if you find clevite parts cheaper, I've also never heard of anyone complain about them either.
