You mean to retrofit them in where you only have lap belts? Never having looked, you are in at least for the belts and mounting hardware, plus the interior panels. The real important question you need to ask is whether the frame has any provision for mounting them. Not to mention that modifying the factory intended seatbelts is illegal in many jurisdictions.
It isnt an aftermarket part. Right in the manual it has a picture where it gets bolted on. I just havent talked to the dealer yet. I doubt I will be able to get my hands on them.
In the late eighties manufactures where told they would have to put shoulder belts in the back I believe starting in 90. So you could get the shoulder belts from the manufactures and have them installed.
I've heard that the backseats are equipped for shoulder belts. But like you said Bgrieger, he'll have to either modify his or hunt down Japanese interior parts that are equipped for such a thing.
I have two boys so I would like to have them if possible. In the owners manual there is a picture with a dimension for the upper anchor. Ill call the parts department tomorrow and get a good laugh out of him Iam sure. I called the parts department. No luck.
Here is the link for all manufactures who would sell you shoulder belts.
Ah well that certainly is a good reason. If you dont have any luck there I will try to see if my friend in Japan can get ahold of some MKIII rear shoulder belts and trim
Called down to the US today. After about 5 min on the phone the guy said they have none in the parts database. Maybe time to buy one a couple years newer.
Strange. I'm pretty sure if you took off the plastic you would find a spot for it to be mounted at. I found a bar that mounts where the back shoulder belts go. I asked and the people said there are spots for it. Why would Toyota do that but not offer the belts? Yeah maybe if you find some belts out of an 89-92 Supra or out of an MK4 Supra
No need to go to Japan. The parts were available at one time, though whether the dealers can get them in your colour is a different story. You can likely get several of the pieces from a part out newer car, though I would rather have lap belts I knew than a wrecker 3 point belt! The electronic parts catalogue lists that the panels were also available in 3 point, but they are pretty darn pricey if the dealer has the ability to get them!
Panels: p/n 62471-14270-XX (XX represents a 2 digit code for your colour)
3 pt Belts/assemblies: p/n 73360-14200-XX or 73360-14210-XX (Right Side)
p/n 73370-14110-XX or 73370-14120-XX (Left Side)
These part numbers are from an old manual, and may be out of date, and to cap it off come from the world guide, not the north american EPC which lists none of these parts at all.
Thanks Bob. The car isnt much use if the kids just get lap belts. I was going to use it as my work car.
Guess Ill keep driving the Cressida. Now I need to keep a lookout for a newer Supra.
Supras (MA70's) in North America got 3-point rear belts in 1989, you should be able to retrofit these parts into your earlier car I would think. I'm not sure if the mounting nuts are in the body for them, but it's the best bet.
Japan didn't get the 3-piece belts until much later, starting in 08/1991 and up (basically for the last model year of production).
