i don't think it would be called base, and optional. i think the supra was marketed as 2 models, a supra, and a supra turbo. options allowed on each car varied, but included things like tranny and sport roof.

the supra came with a normally spirated inline 6, 3 litres disp, called the 2jz-ge and around 220hp(similiar to the previousl mk3 turbo version).

the supra turbo comes with basically the same engine, but turboed, producing 320 mind blowing hp. it is called the 2jz-gte.

Supras have always had inline 6 cylinder engines since the begginning of time itself. well, atleast 1979 when the first generation of supra was born.

The celica, which shared the same platform as the supra for the first two generations(1979-1986), did come stock with a 4-cylinder, and there was no upgrade or optional engine choices for us here in NA.

Will there is one MKIV Supra that had a 4 banger in it, but it was not from the factory. The Top Secret car had the 3SGTE motor in it. so they can run in JGTC 300 insted of the 500.

That is an interesting comment, but we are talking about what the supras came with from the factory.

if they ran supras in nascar, im sure they would toss a v-8 pushrod into it as well.

I seen that also, a guy in Texas had a 350 chevy motor in a MKIII. It had about 400HP. With street tiers it ran low 11s.

Hillbilly Texans.

Why do hillbilly Texans always have to ruin a perfectly good car. Any clown could take a Viper engine and strap it to the back of a Metro, that takes no talent. Big engines do not impress me at all, anything over 6cyl is too much unless it is properly placed in the back of a Ferrari.

I must admit though that I did enjoy the Ford GT commercial at Superbowl halftime.

ITAcelica from P.C.? I have nightmares about the Kaiser in your city. Bad Bad people.

Are you sure he was Texas. Maybe he was from Cali just competing in Texas. At least, that would be my guess.

That's like saying "turbos are useless". Run what you brung, who cares how it makes power? And dropping a V8 into one of these cars takes alot of work, custom fabrication, etc.

I do believe the MKIV in Canada was first available in '94 and through to '96, whereas in the USA, it started in '93 and went to '98. MKIII with 7M-GTE puts out 230hp. 232 I think in later years.

Then we have me, 156hp in a 5M

The MKIV Supras were started in 1993.5 they came in a turbo and non-turbo models with ethier 5 spd, 6 spd, or automatic. You could only get TT's in 6 spd or auto, 5 spd was held for the non-turbos.
