sorry, I couldnt find a specific answer for this and im new so here goes..
I was wondering if there are specific emergency brake shoes for an MK III or if I could use any generic set from another toyota model with relative brake system?
Non-applicable kitty emoticon (I was tempted to use)
The parking brake is a drum type. There is a specific shoe made for it. I replaced mine when I did a small upgrade to the rotors and pads years back, but unless you are down to the rivets from dorifto stuff, I wouldn't worry about replacing them. Disassemble, clean, lube and reassemble and replace any rusted springs. They have almost no material on them even new anyhow as Toyota wasn't expecting anyone to use these except at a complete stop as a parking brake, or as a once in a while emergency, and they are expensive as I recall to get the whole kit. Then again, once every 20 years really isn't all that expensive...

Thanks buddy that was very informative. well the car i was looking at was modified by a DIY mechanic who doesn't 'DIY correctly' lol so I need new shoes cause I dont know what he was doing but he didnt do it right. Thats why he's selling the car among other reasons. You mean the whole brake drum kit is expensive and you're saying I cant just find seperate shoes? well please clarify that for me and also, do you know how much it will cost? I'll be searching the internet later on too. Anyways thanks for info, it answered my question very well.
the e-brake kits are usually $150+ i was like OMG WTF!!!!!
you might be better off searching a junk yard and finding another mk iii, they will/should all have the same drum setup... just find 1 that has a good amnt of pad left, they will probably sell for like $10 at the junkyard vs everywhere else for over $150

the drum is part of the rear rotors, not a seperate drum. That at least you get for free whenever you need rear brakes. It's the shoes that are expensive. As I recall, it was over $200 for shoes with all new springs and retainers, plus the rotors were over and above that.

$150 for all the brake shoes you mean? I found a place that sells them for just under $30 a shoe (2 brackets per drum) and it has both front and back.. I didn't know the front needed them though.. I thought the rear were on drum brakes. Am I wrong? lol

holy fuzzballs, are you serious? well how much are rotors? Its better just to upgrade than to go with oem replacements right?
