Brake Hardware Question

I replaced all the brake pads today front and rear. The rear pads hardware was fine so I reused them. The fronts were rusted up, and starting to fall apart. I wanted to know what is the worst that could happen if I did not put the hardware back on the fronts? I put the little string metal parts back on the pads that look like paper clips pulled out, but not the shims. I am going to buy new hardware for the future, just wanted to know if it will cause any problems now or take life away from the rotors or pads.

And one more questions for the caliper bottom bolts is there a torque for them I just torqued them down with a regular socket wrench Pretty tight?

There's torque settings for everything, I'm not sure what it is though.

The "string" pieces push the pads away from the rotor to keep the pads from rubbing when the brakes aren't actually applied. Missing shims shouldn't be a huge issue in the short term.
