Proper special service tool for wheel bearing work

I am trying to replace the front wheel bearings on my 87 Supra. I have a friend who can do the pressing work for me, but he does not have a puller to perform those parts of the procedure (pulling/pushing the axle hub out and removing the inner bearing race). I will need to buy one, but I do not know which one to get. The manual shows what appear to be two different tools being used; I would like to avoid investing huge gobs of money in this tool. Can someone recomend one tool that will do both that I can get reasonable at NAPA or Advance or Autozone or Sears or somewhere?

It will probably cost you less to take the steering knuckle to a dealer to have the bearing replace than to buy tools that you may never use again.

I agree, except that I work on this car, my wife's mini-van, my son's hopped-up Civic and some of my friend's cars. That is why I want to know what the best tool would be to buy so I can use it later. The picture in the manual shows a puller that looks somewhat universal (I have seen what I think is the same thing at the store). I also think I might be able to rent one from one of the chain parts stores...

Bottom line is that I do not have a decent puller, so this could be a good excuse to buy one.

If that is the case, try this puller set from Cornwell, http://www.cornwelltools.com/onlinec.../page281.html; the OWC4579. It will allow you to pull the hub off on the vehicle and also other application that would require a slide hammer.

Once you have the hub off, you will need to take the inner race off for the outside bearing, unless the inside bearing spun on the hub, then you will need a new hub.
