Question about purchasing factory paint for Toyota Supra

I would like to buy the light blue metallic paint for the '86 to '91 Supra, paint code of 8D8. My question is does it matter what brand of automotive paint I use, or does the paint code determine the correct brand? Anyone know what brand of paint Toyota uses at the factory? I don't want to go thru all the trouble of prepping the car for paint, then having it turn out funky because of insufficient paint or the color being off a little from original factory color. thanks in advance, Mike

Wow...never heard someone want H*** blue before...Anyhow, welcome!

The trick to metallic and pearls is that while the color can be matched easily, often the whole thing needs to be done at once, or you take a chance the weight of the flake will not be the same, or applied in the same pattern. A really good body man can get it quite close however. I would advise getting a shop to determine the paint so they can match fade and age characteristics if you are not going for a full respray, rather than just purchasing from Toyota or others before hand.

You should be able to find an OEM match from PPG.
