Question Mishimoto Fan Shroud for MKIV?

I've got a 95 mkiv has been overheating so bad that I couldn't drive more than 15 miles before i had to pull over and wait for it to cool down. Made it home today and checked everything out in the garage, my stock fans have not been activating at all and are completely shot.

At this point I'm thinking of upgrading the radiator and fans all together. I ran across the mishimoto radiator and hose kit for my car at a decent price, but I saw on their website they have bolt on fan shroud kits that come with slim fans for the supra. Anyone use these yet?

I'm thinkin about gettin it all at once so I can get the full package and not have to worry about replacing this stuff in the future. I know plenty of people who vouch for the mishimoto radiator and hoses so im not worried about that but has anyone had personal experience using them?

any feedback would be helpful, thanks guys

I'm unsure what you mean by the stock fans aren't activating. Please elaborate.

However, last I saw on Mishimoto, fitment was an issue they didn't seem to give a shit about resolving Might be the real maker in China doesn't want quality, just cheap as possible. Off brand fans don't exactly instill confidence either...

Do this mod to have your stock electric fans run the whole time the car is running: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fan_mod/index.html. Aftermarket fans actually move less air than a properly working stock clutch fan. The big one bolted to the water pump moves 3,200 cfms. Is your stock fan shroud intact?

Also, the fan shroud design like in the Mishimoto website has had overheating problems. What happens is that the air gets trapped and cannot flow through it fast enough. The solution was to drill a bunch of holes into it. AAP designed their fans like that and pretty much everyone that bought into it was selling them afterwards.

Thanks for the reply guys, i checked the fan assembly and it is corroded, looks like it gunked up pretty good from something and they are seized up.

Supra Saiyan thanks for the positive reply and information, i'm just looking for help on my car, so we dont need to turn this into a trash talking thread. when i get the replacement parts in i will definetely use that fan mod, very much appreciated! I bought the car with an aftermarket shroud so i dont have the stock one anymore unfortunately, but thanks for the heads up on everything.

What fitment issues did they have? I've got a couple friends with mishimoto radiators and they've all fit really well, I helped 2 of my friends install thiers and they dropped right in no problem. Quality was actually really good, honestly i've seen pwr and koyo models that have had really poor welds and came with damaged fins and drainplugs so as far as them being cheap as possible I dont agree with, but to each thier own.

oh just so you know koyo's made in china anyway - http://www.koyorad.co.jp/english/overseas2.html

Looks like they are hit and miss as well then if you've seen some good ones.

The MKIII rad can't use the stock upper mounts...they leave the "drop in" part up to you...some have also had to trim the lower mounts (Koyo also has this dilemma on some cars), fan shroud bolts don't line up all the time, bad drains etc.... In short, even one of the sponsors over at Supramania and a (former maybe) Mishi vendor in Cali is having someone else step up to supply another rad. In his words, he wanted someone who didn't appear to weld drunk to supply his products...that says a fair bit to me!

Yes, many Koyo are made in China...I've never had that big an issue with China made as long as the engineering was done elsewhere, or the plants weren't trying to meet the ebay stamp of cheapness.

I've seen lots of Koyos and have yet to see one that wasn't perfect out of the box. Perhaps quality has slipped of late, but until a couple of years back they were always top shelf.

My Koyo was pristine coming out of the box. I couldn't have been happier. In fact. In the first 4 minutes of handling I'd done more fin damage than I could find on the initial removal from the box.
