What's the best tranny for 7M-GTE?

Am I right in recalling that the R-156 tranny is used behind the 7M-GTE? Is it stout enough for 400 lbs ft of torque? Are there any other strong(er) trannys that will bolt up? Like a 6speed from a MKIV? Thanks

Matt

The Getrag unit is a bear to fit, and requires a custom bell housing. The R154 is the gearbox behind the 7m, and the 1j. A few complain that they break them, though knowing a couple I suspect them and not the tranny. The highest power Supras I've heard of and seen don't seem to have any problems, short of age and miles wearing the syncros away. Stick to sprung clutches and avoid constantly dropping the clutch should keep em going a long time.
