Basic Supra Motor Q's 7M, 1JZ, 2JZ

I hear about MKIII people wanting to swap out the 7M-GTE in favor of a 1JZ-GTE. I thought I recalled reading that the 1JZ is a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) only motor. In any case I'm interested in finding out what the main differences are between the 7M, the 1JZ and the 2JZ.

What about transmissions? Can you bolt up an R-154 to a 1JZ, or a 2JZ and the opposite question of course; can you put a late 6 speed (don't know the proper designation) behind a 7M?

One thing that I seem to be learning so far is that the 7M is a great motor with a few quirks, but, that it can't be beat, in a dollar per horsepower comparision.

Well, As I will agree that the 7M is a good block Id rather take the 6M block or a modafied 5M block over it any day.
But as for diferences, well you know the 7M is a 3.0 liter like most supra engines, the 2Jz would follow the same guidlines and for the most part be the same engine minus the fact that its newer and better designed and so on. As for the 1Jz its like you said a JDM motor but we can buy them here in the US no problem, but in my experience the 1Jz being a 2.5 liter block and usualy coming equipt with a twin turbo sucks in all comparison. But then I dont believe in turbos, not when I can build more horsepower out of compression and heat. My sugestion if your thinking of doing a 1Jz engine swap for your 7M is dont, for the cost to buy and swap the motor your better off overhauling the 7M and modifying it to what you want. This way its more cost effective and over all youve built a superior engine. now if you want to go ahead and get yourself a 2Jz by all means go for it but again cost hits you, and for a 2Jz TT having 350 horsepower and a modafied 7M having what do you know 350 to 400 horsepower (given what road you take with its rebuild) is again a superior motor and a more cost effective route. Another JDM supra block that is related to the 7M is the 1G Gteu this is a bit more expencive block to rebuild and is a rare find but creates one hell of a monster.
But to clarify Yeah I do support some of the older engines that toyota made against the newer because for the cost and performance Im getting all to take my race cars to the tracks and with my "old and crumbling" engine and blow the doors off of these cocky highschool kids that think they know everything its just too fun, of course then again Ive been working with these motors for quite a while and I might know what Im donig eh?
Ive built some frankenstine engines at that, Hmm I want this head and that block and that crank, and so on.

If you are in Colorado you must admit that turbos come in pretty handy in a street car when you are pulling those 11,000ft passes. In my experience, I spent a few years on the Western Slope, the cops spend more time looking for the speeders on the downhill side of the pass not the uphill

I thought a 6M engine is a 5M block with a 7M crankshaft and a couple other pieces? A 7M block is basically a 5M block design that has been bored for more displacement. There aren't many differences between these engines.
Of the engines for the MkIII, the 1JZ is a more expensive choice than building up a 7M. A 7M will make more torque, but the 1JZ will make more horsepower and will be more reliable in the end.
The 1G-GTE[u] is NOT the engine you want. It's a 2 liter engine with weaker internals, and was rarely modified. Swapping a 1G engine in would be like asking for a base model Mustang engine - why, when you can get a GT or Cobra engine for just a little more, and you would have a MUCH better base for mods? A 1G conversion would make no sense whatsoever.
