Question can I replace turbo without raising car?

My 1987 supra has bad bearings as intercooler has oil in it.I
have shop manual but it looks like the car has to be on a lift to
get at the oil lines and exhaust...toyota dealer wants 1800 to
rebuild and install turbo.I have another turbo but no one in my
small town wants to touch it...so can I replace the fool thing
myself???

i have watched guys take off and put on turbos with the engine in the car, and let me tell you, those oil cooler lines have caused plenty of hardships. they are hard to get at, and lining them up is way hard.

BUT, it can be done.

if you take all the other stuff like shields, brackets, downpipe, etc, you will have more room to get at those buggers. just remember to put it back on first when you still have all the room.

i have heard people say the trick is to leave it connected to the turbo, and just remove the line from the block side.

hope that helps.

worried about. It's good to know it can be done without a lift.

No offence, but fuck the stock lines. What we've done in the turbo dodge industry is make our own out of AN type braided fittings and got all the adaptors to fit the turbo and block - they sell them as kits now and are cheaper than stock lines, easier to remove, last longer and look better.

Peice together your own lines.
