Hello all, it's been a while since I last posted to this forum. I am the proud owner of a one owner (bought new in '87) MK3 Turbo. Great car, to say the least. It was daily driven for a while, until it started to develop some problems. The TPS had a dead spot, so the car would miss at 1500 rpm or so, very consistently. Then, I had some problems with surging, usually when it was warming up. Very severe, blasting up to 3500 rpm or so, with no throttle input from the driver, so I started to suspect a bad AFM (original part). I was unfortunate enough to drive through a deep puddle (deeper than anticipated), with the plastic lower shroud removed, and I am sure that I sucked a bit of water in. No mechanical damage, but the car now dies when throttle is applied. Seems like a classic AFM failure. My question is this: what would be the best course of action when it comes to replacing the AFM? I have big plans for this car, and a plethora of upgrade goodies in my basement, including an old school HKS F-CON. I really don't plan on boosting past 14 psi or so, and would like to retain the stock CT26, possibly with a mild change in the compressor trim. I don't like lag. Sooooo... there are a few options. New AFM from Toyota (expensive). Used 7MGTE sensor (prob harder to source, and still used). Used Lexus sensor (readily available, but still used, needs tuning, and won't work well with HKS fuel computer, or stock tune and injectors). If all of my assumptions seem valid, does anybody have any suggestions for which direction I should take with this? Thanks!
