Hi,
I just bought my Supra, (automatic) and I have only two real concerns. It seems to idle kind of high, and when I shift it into any gear, whether it be forward or reverse, it lurches a little hard. Does anyone think this has to do with the idle, or could it be something else?
Also, if I go above 50-52 MPH, the car starts shaking, and I have to back it back down.. at lower speeds it is fine. I am very happy with it otherwise, but these two things really concern me. How expensive would repairing something like this be? Those things aside, it is just a beautiful car, and the interior and paint are damn near perfect! Thanks for your help!
shaking could be wheel balance, any loose suspension component, driveshaft wobble or anything else. Should be quick to diagnose for a mechanic if you require the assistance. Price to fix will depend on the problem.
Idle could be a vacuum leak, idle air controller, airflow meter, or other sensor related problem. Again, diagnosis shouldn't bee too bad, though price to fix could vary wildly.
Thank you so much for responding. Your suggestions definitely help, and I will inquire about them this week. I am so thrilled to have a Supra finally; it took me 21 years to be able to have one, but it has definitely been worth the wait!
Thanks again!
Hi!
I am pretty new to the forum, but I will be posting pics ASAP! The overall shape of the car inside and out is pretty awesome, considering all I paid was 1,500 dollars, and the owner threw in a gorgeous set of chrome rims for nothing! I have checked out all I can of the car for now, but considering that I have owned it for just over 48 hours, I am sure there is more to work on.. needless to say, I am so happy to have it!
It is not turbo, but I really don't care.. the guy i got it from has taken very good care of it, and it will definitely throw your head back without really trying! It is dark blue with light blue interior, and came with all original stuff, right down to the toolbag, and even has the rear deck cover.. (not sure of the technical term for it)..lol

I'm also a new owner and purchased my supra for $400.
I'm amazed at how cheaply these cars sell for.
They seem like great values and if there not ... it won't hurt so bad.
I got the wheels balanced and rotated, and that solved the shaking.. now i just need to figure out a small power steering leak, and find some shocks... lol.. it's always something, huh?? anyway, thanks everybody who responded, it is really appreciated!
I will post pics asap! I have a sweet set of 18' rims that will show off the slotted brembo rotors, but i can't afford the tire i need to complete the set yet!! Do you have pics of your supra up somewhere, human?
