1jzgte vvti swap

i have an 88 supra 7mgte(rear sump) 5speed r154. and i found a 1jzgte w/vvti (rear sump) 5speed r154. is this still gonna be diffucult in an 88 supra?
Both engines are 5 speeds with r154 trans and rear sump oil systems.
i'm just wondering if all the other posts about this are just not complete as the should be on specifics.

thanks

The VVTI are a nightmare to tune as I understand, and everyone says to stay away from them, but to physically bolt it in is not all that difficult. You need the newer subframe or there is a guy on supramania that makes custom engine mounts to bolt the 1J into the older chassis. Wiring harness also needs to be extended, and you can spend the hours researching all the rest of what is required here, on supramania and around as there is just too much to retype for you.

its only difficult to tune a VVTI only if you plan on shooting for high horsepower, but if you want it for daily use and reliability then there should be no issue, and the swap is pretty basic, the same as doing a regular 1jz into a ma70 Ive also been told the harness is longer but I havent seen one in person yet.

As far as motor mounts there is a dude Named Randy who runs BICperformance in cananda and he makes drop in motor mounts for 1j/2jz applications.

As far as wiring it up it depends on how you want to go about it, you can cut a 2.5" hole on the drivers side firewall and run the harness to the glove box then swap over your body connectors or you could go threw the hassle of extending the harness yourself. Or you could send your 7m harness and 1jz harness to Phoenixtuning to extend the harness for you for a fair price of $600 US.

Hope on supramania and do some reasearch they have all your answers there or they should at least...

I've also heard and read that the VVT-i is a nightmare. No point in it. If you want a 1jzgte, find one that's non-VVT-i. Just my 2 cents.

Noone has said that swapping a VVTi was hard, or that understanding VVTi tech was tricky. Tuning them for high hp was. If you want a DD/a hair more power out of one, all the power to ya.

Looking at that thread he just has a swap and hasn't even upped the boost.
