Canada 2jz-ge

hey all

i was just wondering if the 2jz-ge and the 2jz-gtte are the exact same engine without the turbos. like the same internal and all that . and if so then can someone just get the parts and turbo it, without having to do an engine rebuild and still get the same output as a stock with a tt engine.

just some information i'm looking at getting a 94 supra and wanted to know because the cost is much less without the turbos as you all probably well know.

tks

1st a quick rant:
There is no such thing as a Toyota 2JZ-GTTE. GTTE is a Nissan term. GTE is Toyota and the 2JZ was never made in factory single turbo.

As for your question, No. The GE blocks have higher compression (both a blessing and a curse) for boost. It makes boost more effective but also more deadly (both due to heat and the inherant pressure/detonation). The block also doesn't have factory oil squirters to cool the pistons. So it's a double whammy about the heat. The factory ECU is also not tuned for the boost so you'd need to watch out for that as well as the injectors being undersized. Other than that, there have been some pretty successful conversions you just have to be very very careful of rushing into it rather than doing it all right the first time.

Quick Edit: I don't own a Mk4/2JZ, so I'm doing a little reading on it... and it looks like I'm wrong:
Quote:
Note that all the turbo upgrades designed for the GTE engine do NOT fit the GE engines. On the GE engines, the exhaust ports are different. So any manifold for the GTE does not bolt up to the GE. You need special designed manifolds for doing a turbo upgrade on the GE engine. Note it is possible to replace the intake surge tank of the GE. This will prevent the intake charge from running over the hot turbo, although you might consider this to do on a later stage, as the GE engine has the same idea of the M engine so maybe you can still use your intercooler hard pipe set.

Someone who owns a Mk4 should probably clarify.

As said above the GE and GTE motors are fundimentally different in several ways.
1. They have different heads with different intake and exhaust manifold bolt patterns so you can not simply take a TT intake and exhaust manifold and bolt it to a NA head.
2. The NA motor has high compression pistons(10:1) the TT has low compression (8.5:1).
3. Injectors in the NA are 330cc, TT injectors are 550cc.
4. NA runs a distributor, TT is coil pack ignition.
5. ECU is different as is air metering devices, Karmen Vortex(NA 93-95) vs. hot wire(tt).
6. TT block has oil squirters, NA does not.

There are other things between NA and TT cars that are different including,
Bigger brakes on the TT
More robust fuel pump in TT
LSD in TT vs open diff in most NA's
Tranny's in TT cars are much more stought, V160 6 speed in TT is vertually bulletproof. W58 5 speed in NA good to 500rwhp if you are lucky.
Traction control in TT cars.
Bigger radiators in TT.

All this being said you can turbo the NA motor with any one of a number of aftermarket kits made specifically for the GE motor. It requires a good deal of patients, perserverance, and money to get it to the same levels that are easily attained by the TT motor set however.

That W58 just keeps getting more and more stout. Every post I read about it people give it more and more credit. Last I heard it still wasn't to be trusted above 400.

It really depends on how you treat it. I kind of baby mine, no hard launches, highway pulls on occassion. I've dynoed 540rwhp. This is my second one though.

I think that's officially the highest number I've ever heard of on a W58. Is that corrected or actual?

Actual. Ran a little rich in the middle but actually ran out of fuel up top or probably could have made a little more. This was a 4th gear pull.

Very nice numbers. Ran pretty fat there in the middle too. A nice 11.7 tune and you probably could've extracted a good bit more power! Awesome!
/To those watching, sorry to take this thread OT.
