$300 4door supra

thats right, i just bought a cressida for 300 bucks. this thing is in awsome shape. super clean, straight body, no rust, but 200,000 highway miles. i really would like to have an mklll, but i already have an 84, and 85 supra. i figure having a 91 cressida isn't all that bad. i bought the car when it was raining and it handled and braked great. but i did notice a problem with the tranny. this is my first automatic tranny ever.
the problem that i'm having is a shifting problem.if the shifter is in drive and you take off at the light it starts off in 2nd gear. and as ar as i can tell it never makes it into overdrive.
now you can be stopped at the light and manually shift between 1st 2nd and 3rd and it seems to be ok. the only other thing that i notice is it doesn't seem like the throttle kick down doesn't work like i think it should. i really haven't had a chance to check the fluild yet but the problems seem to be like a solenoid or a simple adjustment . any body got a little heads up for me . can really use some friendly advice or an idea for a good starting point besides fluid and filter change thanks

What did you expect? You paid 200 dollars. My solution would be to ditch it and buy a new one or learn to cope with the cruddy transmission. Part of the joy of owning a 100k+ mile car is getting to know all the tricks of the trade to getting her moving so I suggest you drive some more haha.

Thanks for adding nothing to our section here. I didn't hear a complaint, but rather a question as to how to diagnose the A340 kickdown and first gear start problems. Given your only remotely automotive post here at TN to date was asking whether you need to do anything other than to put your truck into neutral before towing it suggests you might want to spend some time learning before just jumping in. As they say, it's hard to put your foot in your mouth when it's closed...

Now that the housekeeping is out of the way, I'll take a look at the shop manual later when I get home, but I'm far from a slushbox expert. That said, what better excuse to go 5 speed

I can't say I really know much about the A340's either. Slushboxes are a relativistic mystery to me :-)
