1990 Supra Turbo valve seals

I got my Supra engine torn down to change the valve seals. I've got the top end torn down. I can now see the tops of the valves but there doesn't seem to be enough room between the valves and the head to fit a valve spring compressor tool in there to remove the valve springs to change the valve seals. Is there a special tool required or does the head have to be removed to do this job? I have both the factory repair manual and either the Hanes or Chilton. The aftermarket manual says it can be down with the head on the car but all illustrations shown are for an older model Supra. The factory manual only shows the procedure in a head rebuild with the head off the car. I really don't want to pull this head but I don't have any other ideas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Gregg.

Yes, you do need a "special" (i say special because they are hard to come by, but fairly reasonable priced.) type of compressor. They really don't consist of much, it is a screwdriver type handle thing, with a about a 3/8" opening on the end. All you do is push down a touch, and the keepers pop out and are stuck to the inside of the tool. It is highly magnetic. They run about $50. Although, I used one called the Valvemaster, and it worked like a charm. I paid about 80 for it, but it was amazing, and I am doing a head job on my car in a couple of years any way
