Question 88' Supra transmission info

I was just wondering if any other Toyota has the same transmission as an 88' Supra. The engine is a 7M-GE. I might need one and I was hoping to widen my possibilities of finding one. Most likely wishful thinking but it can't hurt to ask.

Manual, or automatic?

Manual, 7M-GE powered (non-turbo) supras used the W58, and they are quite common in the buy sell sections of the various supraforums/supramania forums sites (though not all that common here).

The W58 as I recall (though I might be wrong) is the same internally as the 4th gen and 2nd gen supras W58, though the tailshaft, input shaft and shifter housing are all different so it is not a straight swap. Others may be better able to tell you the differences. Turbo cars use the R154, which is a very different beast from the W58.

The automagic supras, both turbo and non (7M-GTE, or 7M-GE) used the same A340E, and that was also used in the 7M-GE powered Cressida as I recall (again, a cressida owner on the forums here should be able to confirm). That gearbox is again available via forums buy/sell sections and should go cheap as dirt. Nobody wants them. I had one I couldn't give away. A couple of us joked that we'd stake them into the ground at the end of a driveway and use the bell housing as a planter.
