91 supra interior parts question

Hello I have a 91 supra that needs many interior part replacements... I found an 87 parted out car online that has the same color interior however someone told me that the supras interior changed slightly in 89 for airbags and that all the interior parts would probably not match---is this true?

I've noticed that the colors are slightly different, but sun fade is the real determinant of what is still right and wrong. If your color is maroon, the later cars had slightly more purple/red when compared to the 86-88 cars which had a slightly more brown tone. The dark blue also changed a bit, but I'm not as familiar with it.

87 had no airbag, so the wheel parts will not be directly compatible, but I've seen some people downgrade to the earlier wheel (I prefer them myself) as it will fit on the steering shaft. Careful when working on the steering of airbag equipped cars...they have killed people if there has been an accidental discharge from static discharge or other error in removing them from the shaft.

the blue never changed, as my 86.5's interior matches the 91 door panels I have on my 89...

Maroon was dropped in 91, in favor of blood red...

your 91 interior is Shadow Gray, very rare and desireable, the gray from any 86.5-1990 will not match..

also, the door panels are different, you will actually be downgrading, as 91/92 doors have 6.5 inch speakers, pods and speaker covers, compared to the previous 4 inchers.

the lower dash panel will not match up, as well, and doesn't mount the same, and is a padded two piece in 91/92 models, compared to the flimsy plastic of pre 90 models.. Also, you have different switches and switch panels to the left of the steering wheel, that don't match 87 items, including the dimmer...

The rear seatbelts will not work correctly either, as 86.5-1988 Supras have lap belts for the rear, while 89+ have shoulder belts that mount in the C pillar...

you can get away with small items like fabric inserts, door handles, switches, bezels (although they don't match, they fit and work perfectly), seats (although you will be missing the seat belt guides of 88+ Supras)...

The headliner and visors swap, but pre 89 Supras were wraped in vinyl, and on pre 89's the driver's side has a mirror and a light that later models do not...

the center console's arent a direct swap either. pre 89 didnt have the airbag computer so alot of cutting would have to be done.

oh yeah, forgot about that..!

a pre 90 center console has a deeper cup and a deeper bin, plus 89 models received a cup holder, with a different lid..

90-92 center consoles became more shallow, as the airbag computer and connections are there, so the cup and bin reflect that...
