Oil dipstick

So, has anybody else had trouble reading the dipstick on your gte? My 89 one has the round metal on the end and it is a certifiable pis* in the woods to decipher whether the oil is at optimum or not. Any ideas on how to remedy this? I like the flat metal ones better, very easy to read.

Ive seen some drill holes 1/16 inch in them at full, half and low. If the hole has oil, that is at least the level...I've not tried it. I just used some steel wool to clean mine up a bit making it a little easier to read

Personally, I went and bought a new dipstick. Toyota redesigned them. Since then I've never had trouble reading it. I'd tried notching the sides of my old one, I'd tried steel wool, I'd tried just about everything. It was pretty cheap too. Don't quite recall how much though, sorry.

No problem, thanks for the replies everybody. I will probably try cleaning it first to see if that does anything for me, otherwise I will just buy a new one. Thanks for the info!
