Engine swap cost?

I heard that the 1JZ is kinda expensive. How much is the 2JZ?How much would each swap cost if I decide to go with one?

The 1j is expensive as it is rare. a toronto club member had to get his 1j clip from the carolinas. it was expensive to buy, expensive to ship, and expensive to get accross the border.

you can pick up 2j's from lexus and other supras right here in canada and the us.

you need lots of parts other than the motor and ecu, which is why a front clip is best.

check out the 1j forums on supraforums.com and torontosupraclub.com for more info from the guys who have done it.

So, youre saying that I should go with the 2JZ swap? Its more expensive than the 2JZ? Why? why is it so rare? Is the 2JZ the better engine?

the 1j is rare because no cars imported to canada or the us had it as a stock motor. they are all brought over from japan. because they were not stock motors, you cannot get parts at a toyota dealer like you would for other motors. these two things make them rare.

the 2j is used on lexus and mk4 supras. so, no matter where you get it from, you can always get the little things you need from toyota.

the 2jz is a later version of the 1jz, so it should be better. the fact that it is cheaper is a bonus. but if you want the awe factor of being the only one within 100 miles with a 1jz, go for it.

both have been done, both will work, both are expensive.

i would never presume to tell anyone which engine choice to make. i merely provide facts as i have heard or seen them. you have to make up your own mind, and live with the choice.
