88 turbo problem

well i have a 88, and the turbo seal are pretty much no good, i have to say that the oil seal is shot, due to a lot of oil in the intake pipes, and all over the T/B, but still gives 5-7 psi with no problems, is it worth to rebuild or replace? i would like to rebuild it, but the problem is that, does any one knows a place that can balance the turbo? i dont want to take a chance of putting it back together, and some thing gets messed up

After decades of use, that's not straight from the turbo unless it's dripping wet oil. 99% of the time, it's the positive crankcase ventilation gases that get sucked back through the charge piping and condense on the walls at various places.

i can take some pics if you would like, its just that, that last owner that had it, put a knock off BOV wanna be HKS, and oil was pissing out of it, then i put a real BOV, and oil was just shooting out of the BOV, and then i had to stop driving it cause oil was just going every where, then theres oil all over the intake pipe i believe its called the accordion pipe w/e it is, all over the T/B, all over inside of the 3000 pipe, like a mess, and the car has about 160K miles on it, like i think the last owner never did work to the car.

Sounds like that qualifies for the dripping wet portion

Seems like a good candidate for oil seals. I've never done work on the CT-26 however, and I'm not sure what all can be done. As for places to balance your best bet would be looking for turbocharger companies near you or a shop that can do it.

These guys do rebuilds and upgrades:
http://store.driftmotion.com/static/...aderebuild.php

I know they've done a LOT of them as well, it seems that half the people over at SM are running one of their upgraded CT-26's.

As for how rebuildable a turbo is... well, unfortunately that's not really something you know until it's taken apart and inspected. If there is a very large amount of axial or radial play it's quite possible it's scrap... but again, you don't know until you take it apart; the play could be due to excessive wear in one part which can be replaced. (Can you tell I've asked this myself recently?)

on your ct-26 is the turbo good or do you have shaftplay? on my old 7m i was havin shaftplay and it would drip oil like crazy, along with what jeevs has said the 7m crank case breather does oddly produce alot of oil haha, as for the rebuild, id say itd be cheaper to look around on craigslist or whatnot and buy a new one, ive seen em go for 40-100 bucks, just be sure its good with no shaftplay

Other than that, not sure how good you are with turbos, could just tear it down and replace the mian seals yourself? not too hard to do at all, but on the same page not necessarily easy haha, hope this helps
