1988 Supra Turbo

Hey all, I'm new here.
I thinkin about buying a 88 Supra Turbo from my neighbor. It's an automatic with 72,000 miles, and it's white. Im really wondering if this is a good first car. I will probably only keep it till i get out of college. maybe lower it with some rims and a cat-back exhaust.

A little history on the car: It was bought brand new for his wife. He also bought one for his daughter then also. All the oil changes and other maintenence have been performed by the dealer. The paint is nearly perfect other then this yellowish looking stuff on the grill. It's definetly not rust. Interior was redone about 2 years ago. I've ridden in it once, and i liked it.

So should i buy it?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

that was my first car. Pretty sick when you upgrade the turbo. before you buy it check under the hood and look at all the gaskets and tranny ones too. look in there drive way to see if there are any oil stains. other than that its a pretty nice car. If you need any parts for it i my be able to get them cheap!

Thanks a lot man. There are no spots on their driveway at all. car has been kept in brand new condition since it was brand new. I think the only thing they had to replace was the battery once.

Ill keep you updated on if i get it. im pretty stoked

sounds like an excellent pick.
single owner well maintained supras are keepers for sure.
i drive my supra year round, and just put either winter "55" series rubber on, or go with the stock spare rim and tire. that is what i am sportin right now, and it has been a snowy cold winter.

YOu can count on a head gasket replacement exercise somewhere between now and 100k miles.... I have two Supras, one blew at 100k, (now has 192k) and the other just blew with 87k miles... This will cost you at minimum $1000 and more like $1800. I would not recommend this car for reliable college transportation unless you can fix stuff yourself.... and have enough spare cash to buy parts at the dealership..... They are not a cheap date, and once you get behind the wheel you will be hopelessly hooked fo life..... Ok fellow Supra lovers, you can pile on me now! lol
