Oil filter relocation kit

Hey guys, I finished putting on my relocation kit and it is in a fairly sweet spot, on the passenger side fender right on top. The relocation adapter fit perfect and cleared the hood, but my filter just hits the hood and pushes it up about a half inch. My question is, all I need is a filter that is about 3/4 inch shorter, and it would solve the problem. Will that change my oil pressure, or otherwise give me any other undesired affects? I use k&n filters, because I like the nut on the end, and they seem to have a nice filter.

What I've read says K&N oil filters are about as good as fram but with a nut (not so great). shorter filter means you'll have less filter capacity. in other words it'll get full faster. you should change it more often and at high oil pressures, it'll open the bypass valve sooner. not a great idea.

I'd adjust the position so the hood closes. smaller filter is a bad idea on any engine, especially one that has questionable oiling abilities to start with (assuming you have a 7m)

Agreed on the filters from what I have seen as well.

The stock Toyota filter is about as compact as it gets, and does a fine job for what it is.

I'd recommend Wix (available as NAPA Gold) for an inexpensive and good filter.... newer Toyota filters are not all that. Last I checked K&N were well above FRAM, more along the lines of Mobile 1... both are over priced for what they are though.

Now that you've got the filter in an easy to reach location why do you need the nut anyway?

I would take the filter mount off and take it into the store with you and simply try a few filters until you find one that fits your needs. I did this when looking for the biggest one I could find.

If you want more information on the more common filters out there read this thread: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42763 (It's on another site and may require you to register.)

If you just want the absolute BEST filter, look at Amsoil EaO and Canton.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I appreciate your help. I guess I'll end up having to move it, the thing that sucks is that it was in an awesome spot, and now there will be three holes there. Oh well, thanks though!
