1G-GTE Engine Swap

Hey, I'm new here and have a question for anyone who might help. I currently live in Japan and have an 88 Cresta with an 88 1G-GTE Supra Twin Turbo in it. For one reason or another I can't take the car with me when I leave in the next couple months. I am thinking of pulling the engine and dropping it into another car in the states. What would be a good match for it. I have ZERO experience in this sort of thing. I would be looking for a car that I can drive until my shipment comes in that I can get relatively cheap and when the engine arrives I want to pull that one and put the shipped engine in.

Is this a complete nightmare to do? Should I even waste my time with it as a beginner? Should I just ship the think back and sell it? If so how much can you get for it? Would much prefer to put it in a car but if someone can do something with it so be it.

Thanks for the info.

If you're coming to the US on a long basis, pick up an MA70 here and say goodbye to the little 1G (though I've always been curious as to what one could really do with one...never got them here). If you really wanted the motor, it is the only car it would swap "easily" in to here. Harness, computer and it should go in no tougher than the 1j conversions guys are doing here.

Keep in mind that cars 15 years and older can be legally imported and driven in Canada without modification. So a Supra R or a nice MR2 Turbo could be brought over.

buy 2 half cuts, put em back together, and it'd be even cheaper.

actually it is cheaper to import the whole car to canada rather than go through the process of putting it back togher,

for example the 89 mr2 with a production date of august, can be brought over here for a price of about $7500CND, that price includes all taxes, and transportation costs, pretty cheap for a turbo MR2,

sorry dident mean to change the subject, just my two cents,

as for the 1G-GTE, i would definatly try to find a MA70, or mount it in the living room as a conversation piece! LOL JJ,

Good luck,

1g-gteu are awesome engines. my mommy used to have one in here mk3 when we used to live in okinawa. well i sold my car, and she gave me that. when i was given it, it had 3 in. exhaust, dont know the name, two blow off valves, intake, and massive weight reduction, that sucker hauled ass. except the one time when i got my ass handed by a gtr.
will always love mk3, still lookin for one, ill dump my 240sx anytime for one and i will plan the 1 double G in my shit. til then nissan power.
