idle surging

Alright so heres my problem.. A few weeks ago, i went out to start my car (about -15C) and it ran fine for a couple minutes, then started surging from about 1100 to 1300 rpm, up and down up and down.. And has done it ever since..

It will idle at about 1500rpm (proper igh idle) for a few minutes depending on how cold it is outside then suddenly start surging (it surges smoothly.. not rough)..Once it starts surging, if I give it any gas, it'l die..

So far, ive had the entire intake system off twice.. Tested the ISC and cleaned it, tested the tps.. it was good, but i put another in just to make sure.. Checked everything for vacuum leaks, or loose wires... The engine light isnt coming on, and isnt throwing any codes...

Would the coolant temp sensor cause this?? anything else?
If anyone could solve this one, ide be forever in your debt

A faulty temp sensor will throw an engine code wont it?? It'l never die without notice.. it surges, but very smoothly.. It only dies if I give it throttle..

But I think thats the only thing I had left to check, So i'll give it a shot.. thankx

Well when I had the problem I never had any kind of light pop up. No engine check light or anything at all. Usually when cars start idling wierd and shutting off, its usually the temp sensor. Hopefully it is though, good luck to you.

to me, it sounds like an AFM problem.
rough idle.
give it gas, and it dies.
that is classic BAD AFM siymptoms.
you might have a bad afm, or the connector might be loose, or have a bad connection.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. if it returns, i would look to the AFM first.

My mom and dads 81 corolla did that. When I would start it in cold weather, it would idle funny and cut off when I gave it a little gas. So, what I did since it wasn't my car, I just let it idle like that until the engine warmed up a bit, then I gave it gas and it was fine.

I live in the desert the temp has been in the 90's. my 89 6 cyl pickup has the same problem, however it idles just fine and it runs great, however, if i try to hold the rpm at about or around 1500 it dips to about 900 and back up. if you are driving in that range you can feel it cutting in and out, jerking..really annoying when crawling up a hill. I put all new injectors in it. I am at a loss.
