Code 12

I suppose its alright to start a new thread for this; I am suddenly getting a code 12, and when the car is ideling every now and then after about 5 minutes it just shuts down. Its really strange that I would get this all of a sudden 1000 miles after the build. But I know its an RPM signal. Tac seems to be working.....tsrm lists it as maybe the cps.... well, ok, but where do I go from there? Can I test it to see whats wrong? I also wanted to mention, since it mentions a starter signal in the tsrm, that my starter has the famous intermittent working problem. Sometimes it just clicks once and quietly hums a bit until you release the key. Then after one or two times like that, it will start. This does not always happen, but perhaps it is the problem. I have been procrastinating until summer to buy a new one.

Yup. TSRM States:
Quote:
12 RPM Signal

•No "NE" or "G" signal to ECU within 2 seconds after engine has been cranked.
Trouble Area
•Distributor, or CPS, circuit
•Distributor or CPS
•Starter signal circuit
•ECU
You might want to try jiggling the wires next to the cam position sensor. After all these years they have a bad habit of ending up baked and damaged. And if it can't get the reading it wants. There ya go.

Yep, it was the wires. I had to cut and pigtail in some new wire, no longer a problem! Thanks for the reply!

np. That's a typical problem area.
