overhaul or swap?

hey..well im new to this and im still kinda learning more about cars in general. i have an 88 7M-GE, it still runs pretty good and has about 240,000 miles on it. i was wondering..would it be better and more cost efficient to just overhaul the whole engine or go thru with a 1JZ swap?

thanx!

Overhaul means you still have an NA car. 1j is a big project. Far easier to swap a 7M-GTE in than the 1j if power is what you want. For reliability, rebuild is always the better choice.

yes, it depends where you want to end up. if it is reliability, stick with a rebuild/overhaul.

if it is max-horsepower, then a turbo should be in your future.
changing a 7m-ge to a 7m-gte has been done many times, documented everywhere, and can provide you with as much reliability as the stock engine you have.

going with a 1jz-gte 1gtte, or even 2jz-gte has been done less often, not as well documented, and by no means gurentees the best bang for your buck.
