Interested in buying a 91 Turbo. Would like info about these kinds of cars.

Hi, I am interested in buying an automatic 91 turbo. It has 70 k miles on it and it is in good condition. 1 owner, no accidents, etc. They are asking about 6 k.

Would you guys say that these cars are reliable? I have heard that these cars tend to have minor problems and that the only major problem is the head gasket, which is typically changed around 95 k. How much does a new head gasket go for? Also, do these cars experience a lot of problems? The thing isI am not good at all at fixing cars - I am not a car expert by any means.

Basically, the reason I like these supras are they look good, are affordable, and have solid speed. I am not sure if they are reliable though, and I certainly don't want to spend a lot of money on repairs (and again I cannot fix even little problems.)

Please give me your thoughts on these turbo cars and some info about them. Thanks guys.

great cars if you have time, patience and money.
there's a good group of supra owners down there in the bay area that would help you out i'm sure.

BHG's can run you from 100$ if you do it yourself to over a grand if you pay someone.

6K? No way you cant be getting it that cheap can you? Those are like 50 thousand dollar cars. They are Toyota's, so they are pretty reliable.

$50k.... are you talking about? A 1991 Supra T... for $50,000.... you can find a MKIV for less than that.

Oh ya... I forgot. Supras are bad ass.... any generation. For $6k I would go for it. You are bound to fun into problems... but that is the same for any car. Especially if you want something w/ speed. Is it an automatic or 5spd?

As a wiseman always said (me), you can't go wrong with a Toyota. Any supra turbo or not, has so much potential it isn't even funny (haha). But, it does take time, effort, money, time and money. You can get a regular HG for about $60. But, if you are going to modify it and plan on holding on to the car, I would go for the HKS head gasket cause it has metal particles in it. Or, buy one with copper in it. There are cheap ways to produce some horses with a little help from the intake and exhaust. Cut off the catalytic converter and thats even more. But, check out these sites: www.suprasport.com, www.suprastore.com and www.i-supra.com for a bunch of stuff and info.

Mostly stock, with a new turbo, K&N FIPK and exhaust. The old owner gave me a free racing steering wheel.

Head gasket upgrade is the best thing you can do. Spend the money and get a metal one and some ARP head bolts and get them torqued down tight. That will save you from pretty much any engine trouble. I drive an 87 turbo and I would not trade my car for anything. I love it. If you make sure to treat it right (change the oil RIGHT at 3000 miles, make sure to let it warm up and cool down) a Supra will take care of you for a long time. I higly recomend you buy the Supra.

Check out supraforums.com, supramania.com, and socalsupras.com. Those forums will give you all the info you could ever ask for.
