I hate to say it but some of you guys are morons. Of course you can get over 400hp from a Supra only spending roughly $3000. If you guys know your sh*t then you wouldn't bother arguing over who's right and who's not. I think you're all too used to making 5hp extra from your Corollas and Camrys with $3000 but on a Supra you are gonna see huge horsepower gains.

haha.... you are funny, by the way, do you own a MKIV Supra?
I don't follow the mk4's as close as i once did, but some quick investigation revealed this. BPU stands for Basic Performance Upgrade(I already knew that much), and the early mk4 guys who coined the phrase(i also knew that, because i have been arounds supra and the internet since 1996) used to put on an air filter, downpipe, exhaust, and pull the wastegate hoses and install a ffcd(free Fuel cut defenser). This would run the turbos at 17psi, and go like the wind.
Later, they added BPU+ and BPU++, and finally APU to their sigs. If you look at mkiv.com, you see that BPU+ inculdes BPU items plus cam gears and a front mount intercooler. To me, those are pretty hefty Basic Performance Upgrades. In the mk3 supra world, we use HKS STAGE numbers, from 1 through 7, and use the plus sign if we add something not listed, but still effective. For example, HKS does not list a doenpipe in their staged list, but it is a pretty nice piece of equipment to have, so we add a "plus" sign to denote a d/p. the rest oif the hks stage numbers go something like this: 1/air filter, 2/exhaust, 3/boost control, 4/intercooler, 5/fuel computer(f-con), 6/air-density(VPC), 7/big-a$$ turbo. The order of when to do these is controversial to say the least, but each represents an increasing amount of dollars spent, and allows different supra owners to compare the mods they have. My supras runs stage 3+, which includes a HKS-SUPER-DIRT-FLOW, HKS EXHAUST, HKS D/P, and a GREDDy PROFEC, and represents about 2000cdn when bought new several years ago. This, in my opinion is the equivalent of a simple BPU package.
But to the untrained forum member, BPU might as well be BPU+, or even BPU++. The plus can't stand for that much, can it? According to your list, that extra "+" is 1500us dollars, being the cam gears and intercooler. if i spent 1500 dollars in mods, id wanna add more than a "PLUS" sign to my sig. That 1500us is a little more than half of you total cost, or in other words BPU+ is double the price of BPU. BPU++ is again that much above BPU+.
Personally, i think that list is a bit on the pricey side, but it all depends(TM) on which brand names you choose, and what the economy is like where you live. I think we could all agree that for BPU, you could spend anywhere from 1000 to 1500us, and BPU+ from 2000us to 3000us, and BPU++ from 3000us to 4500us. As to what HP levels, and what cars you can pull on, i have no info, and won't guess.
BPU info can be found pretty easily by looking at http://www.mkiv.com, then choose Tech articles, and chosose the appropriate BPU from the list.
Are you going to the new jersey meet later this month MKIV? Myself and about 20 other toronto supra owners will be heading down. I just like to meet and talk to fellow supra owners. Can't we all just get along? Look for me, i'll be in or near a white mark 3 supra with the ontario plate "BOOST EH".

Let's say this, MKIV. If you can't get at least 400hp from your Supra using intake, exhaust and boost controller then you don't deserve to have one. Unless you are getting ripped off everywhere you go to buy parts or something this to me totals to about $2200 CDN dollars. By the way I don't own a Supra I own a MR2 T but I do know my stuff on cars.
MR2 is nice, what year is it? we are having a 2002 Ontario Supra meet on May 19th, want to join us?
MR2 is 1991. Sorry I can't join you guys for this meet but maybe another one someday. Just put in a turbo upgrade and need to retune the ECU so car is sitting as I speak. Anyway sorry to get off on the wrong foot with some of you just want to let you guys know that the Supra motor is capable of lot's more than what you may think.
