1JZ vs 7M Clutch Disc Diameter ??

Hi i'm building a 91 Turbo MK3 with an R154 transmission and 2JZ-GE engine.
I' am going to use a 1JZGTE flywheel and bellhousing.

***My question is the following: Is the 1jz flywheel friction area greater than the 7mgte FW and therefore does a slightly larger clutch disk exist for the 1jz?

Yes I KNOW that the two clutches are interchangeable because they both use the R154 transmission spline but is the 1jz clutch grip area wider than the 7m is what i haven't gotten a clear answer for.

Thanks in advance for your input

My understanding is the disks are the same, but I'll look into it over the weekend.

Thanks,

Bob

best info I can find says they are the same size, and that everything but the flywheel are interchangeable when using an R154. I'm getting that second hand though, so if there is another source that can confirm it you might want a quick check. Shops like driftmotion would be able to help you here.

The 7M and 1JZ clutches are identical from the factory. Confirmed this.

All that is different is the flywheel and flywheel bolts, everything from there back is the same on the 7M and 1JZ.

Thanks guys I was looking everywhere but that seems to be the case, Now to shop for a clutch that's drivable because it is going to be a daily driver but a badass one at that! , so its gotta be able to grip and handle some occasional launching
I've been suggested sprung hub for smoother shifting, girl will be sitting in the passenger seat at times
if anyone has a suggestion for a good yet somewhat affordable clutch disc, feel free to reply (puck, material, brands)

Feramic based clutches are well regarded, and after driving a few I agree. They are a little grabbier than stock, but the material is just spectacular with low pressure plate weights and holds a lot more than the full ceramic and sintered metal disks and puck types. Mine is a full face south bend feramic that I got a chance to drive on another car a couple of years back (mine is still off the road...I might get one drive before the snow flies if things get less crazy at work, otherwise it waits till spring).

Engagement is very stock like. If you need more grab than that, multi disk clutches are great, but come at a very high price premium.
